In-office minor surgeries and treatments
Joint injections
If you have pain due to arthritis, tendonitis, or bursitis, we can help. Our team of providers include experts in family medicine and sports medicine, and we’re skilled in performing corticosteroid injections that can reduce inflammation and relieve joint pain.
Joint aspiration
Also called arthrocentesis, joint aspiration removes excess fluid from a joint, reducing pressure and decreasing pain and swelling. It’s a safe and effective treatment for conditions like arthritis or gout.
Lacerations/sutures
Whether you suffer a cut on your hand, arm, leg, or face, you’re in good hands at Ironwood Family Practice. Our family medicine providers can evaluate the severity of the laceration. If you have a deeper cut that requires sutures, we can stitch it up right here in our office.

Women’s health in-office procedures
Cryotherapy/LEEP
Cryotherapy and loop electrosurgical excision procedures (LEEP) prevent cervical cancer by removing abnormal or pre-cancerous cervical cells. During cryotherapy, our women’s health specialists use liquid nitrogen to freeze precancerous cells. During LEEP, a thin, heated wire is used to cut away abnormal cells.
Colposcopy
If a Pap smear shows abnormal results, our doctors may perform a colposcopy. It’s a diagnostic procedure where a doctor uses a special light with a magnifier (called a colposcope) to examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva for signs of abnormal cells. If our specialists identify any abnormalities, they can also biopsy those cells for further testing.
IUD placement and removal
Intrauterine devices – small, T-shaped contraceptives – are more than 99% effective in preventing pregnancy, and they’re reversible. Most IUDs will last between 3 – 10 years. Our women’s health providers are skilled at both IUD placement and removal inside Ironwood Family Practice in Coeur d’Alene.
Men’s health in-office procedures
Vasectomy
Vasectomies are one of the most effective forms of birth control. During a vasectomy, a men’s health doctor will make a small incision on either side of the scrotum, then cut and seal the vas deferens, the tubes carrying sperm. This prevents sperm from mixing with semen. If you’re considering male birth control, learn more about having your vasectomy at Ironwood Family Practice.
Pediatric in-office procedures
Circumcision
Circumcision is a common in-office procedure. While it’s most often performed on newborn boys, it can also be performed on older children or adults. Having a circumcision can reduce the risk of urinary tract infections in infants and may lower the risk of sexually transmitted infections later in life.
