Inpatient Hospital Care

The physicians at Ironwood Family Practice were given the opportunity to become part of the teaching faculty for the Family Medicine Residency program here in Coeur d’Alene. Our experts feel that it is an honor and their responsibility to help educate the family medicine physicians of the future. They hope that in doing so, some of the residents may choose to stay and practice medicine in our community, which will benefit everyone who lives here. If they do stay, it is essential for them to be well-trained, and so our providers have chosen to be a part of the faculty that shapes the future physicians. We will be teaching the resident physicians at the hospital. Our physicians rotate one week at a time and take care of all patients from Ironwood Family Practice who require hospitalization. They share that responsibility (in a rotating fashion) with the faculty of the Kootenai Health Family Medicine Coeur d’Alene Residency.

Your usual care at our clinic will remain unchanged. Our physicians will still take care of your needs, whether it is an acute illness, laceration, skin lesions, etc., or persistent care such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or elevated cholesterol. However, if you are ill to the point of hospitalization you will be admitted to the family medicine service, of which we will be an integral part. There will be a team of physicians who will work together and check on you every day to make sure you receive excellent medical care while in the hospital. Even when our physicians are not the actual attending physicians overseeing your day-to-day care, they will be informed when you are admitted and help in your care by giving additional history and advice about your medical needs. The patients at Ironwood Family Practice clinic will get more personalized care with less physician interruption than hospital patient needs. We want the community to benefit from well-trained family physicians. That’s why we try our best to train them to become exceptional healthcare professionals.
